Marie started triathlon in 2007 doing ‘finish for fun’ triathlons on a mountain bike and developed from there into a long course specialist. Her first half ironman she qualified 2nd in 25-29yr age group at the 2011 Tauranga Half for the ITU Long Distance World Champs. However, the February 22nd Earthquake significantly damaged their home in Christchuch, NZ. Her partner and Marie decided to move to Perth to enable them to train and attend the World Champs. She now considers Perth home and loves the ability to train all year round!
After competing at the World Champs, Marie decided that the only option now was Ironman, something she have supported but always said no-way, not me, not ever! She entered IMWA 2012! 5weeks out from IMWA She was involved in a bike accident and would not be making the start line. Through the ups and downs of recovery she decided she needed to nail an Ironman so she entered IMNZ March 2014! She had a stellar race being the first female age grouper home and 10th female overall.
Marie thought she better take her Ironman World Champ slot to race the best in Kona! Kona was an epic race, she placed 3rd in 30-34yr age group. Four weeks later backing this up with being fastest female age grouper at Mandurah 70.3.
The question then was what next…
Her partner and Marie had the idea of taking a year of work and traveling around Australia in a 4WD and rooftop tent. But as she have been racing so well she really wanted to stick at it! After discussing the numerous paths they could take they decided to travel around Australia while she races as a professional triathlete!
We are really excited to support Marie and cannot wait to see how this year unfolds!
